Flame Hawkfish are arguably one of the most beautiful and iconic hawkfish available in the aquarium trade. They are named for their bright flame red coloration which covers most of their bodies and fins. They also have a dark black stripe along the back, as well as a round black mask around the back of the eyes. This fish can often be found perching on various rocks or equipment in the aquarium looking out for prey below.
Care
Flame Hawkfish grow to 4 inches long, and may be kept in aquariums of 30 gallons or more. They are considered semi-aggressive, as they may not get along with other hawkfish or smaller fish, which they may consider prey. Invertebrates such as shrimp and crabs will also likely be on the menu, earning them the status of reef safe with caution. As with other hawkfish, it's important to provide a well fitted lid on their aquarium to prevent jumping.
Diet
Flame Hawkfish are carnivores, and should be provided with a diet rich in meaty frozen foods.
