The Peacock Gudgeon is native to the freshwater rivers and streams of New Guinea and northern Australia. These habitats are characterized by clear, slow-moving waters with plenty of submerged structures and vegetation.

Aquarium Setup:

Tank Size: Minimum of 20 gallons (75 liters) for a small group

Water Parameters:

Temperature: 72-78°F (22-26°C)

pH: 6.5-7.5

Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water (2-12 dGH)

Substrate: Fine gravel or sand; provide a well-planted tank with ample hiding spots and areas for exploration

Additional Tips:

Tank Mates: Ideal for community tanks with other peaceful species such as tetras, rasboras, and dwarf cichlids. Avoid larger or more aggressive fish that may intimidate or outcompete the Peacock Gudgeon.

Behavior: Peacock Gudgons are active and enjoy exploring their environment. They may display territorial behavior in smaller tanks, so providing plenty of hiding spots is important.

Water Quality: Maintain good water quality with regular water changes and effective filtration to ensure the health and vibrancy of the fish.
